Wetlands Regulation and Mitigation

Learn about the regulation of activities affecting wetlands, permitting for activities in wetlands and wetlands mitigation planning. Gain an overview of federal and state laws and regulations protecting wetlands and other bodies of water, with a special emphasis on Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Topics include:

  • Biological and legal definitions of wetlands
  • Consistencies and differences among various federal and state agencies
  • Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act
  • Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and recent legal interpretations
  • Section 1600 of the California Fish and Game Code

Section Notes

This is an online, remote learning course, which consists of content and curriculum that is taught with pre-recorded and real time lectures, in addition to real-time lecture/Q&A sessions with the instructors. Pre-recorded lectures and live sessions are accessed via our Canvas learning system and Zoom. 

This course is open November 8 – November 10, with a live session on November 10 1:00-3:00 PM PST. 

Attendance to the live session is mandatory to receive credit for this course.

We allow registration through noon (12:00 PM PST) on the first day of the course. We cannot extend course access beyond 11:59 PM on 11/10, so students pursuing a late enrollment acknowledge that they will have less time to complete the materials. Please contact the course representative with any questions.
