This class is designed for professionals who manage environmental, occupational health and industrial hygiene programs at their workplaces. Participants will learn about a range of significant air quality challenges facing work places and methods for addressing those challenges. Lectures and case studies will provide professionals with general working knowledge of the following topics:
- Regulatory background related to air quality, including OSHA and the Clean Air Act
- Indoor air quality, comprising a discussion of applicable health benchmarks and methods for reducing exposure
- Outdoor air pollution, containing a survey of air pollution sources, standards and methods to mitigate impacts
- Epidemiology and toxicology of air pollution
- Personal protective equipment for working in industrial settings
- Building ventilation systems and their role in reducing air quality impacts
- Mold inspection and remediation
- Air sampling and quantitative procedures for determining concentrations of contaminants
