Introduction to Remote Sensing

Quarter Academic Credit
2

Accurately using remotely sensed data is an essential skill for any GIS professional. In this course designed for practitioners looking to hone their GIS abilities, you’ll master the fundamentals of georegistration and mosaicking. Through lecture and hands-on exercises you’ll learn how to efficiently use image analyst tools and raster functions to assemble a time series that ascertains and quantifies the extent and intensity of real-world situations, like the recent California wildfires. This course will introduce you to hyperspectral imagery, and teach you how to use ArcGIS Pro to explore the relationships between data in various parts of the EM spectrum. Students will also get experience working with light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data, and combine this information with other types of imagery. By the end of this course, you will be able to confidently utilize various types of remote sensing data and accurately employ the correct tools and best practices to work with this information in your own projects.
