Shakespeare 4M: Multicultural, Multilingual, Multimodal, Multimedia

This institute will provide teachers with a rich three full days of active strategies to design thematically connected lessons and units anchored in Shakespeare's work and related multicultural texts. Participants will engage in lively action strategies designed by Shakespeare's Globe Education Department to understand the universal truths in the plays (Othello and Twelfth Night) and provide access to themes relevant to contemporary students. Participants will develop interdisciplinary lessons and/or units aligned with curriculum frameworks and standards and learn techniques with a focus on isolating key elements of text to look closely at Shakespeare's use of language. Using a variety of scaffolding strategies participants will design lessons to reveal motives and a variety of interpretations of themes. Participants will practice these approaches and discuss applications for the teaching of both Shakespeare and other literature in this three-day session.
