Teapots, Tea, and the Global Tea Institute

When was a teapot first formed and why? How did the shape, so ubiquitous today, spread around the world? What is tea? Where does it grow? Why is it good for you—is it good for you? What makes it special? How do you brew a good cuppa? Why should we study tea? This talk focuses on the cultural history of tea in China, the development of the teapot, traces it around the world, and explains UC Davis’s own Global Tea Institute for the Study of Tea Culture and Science, an institute unique in the world for its holistic and multi-disciplinary study of tea.
