Civic Rights Actions: Absolute Official Immunity

Under federal law, when a government official violates a person’s constitutional rights, the injured person can bring a civil action for money damages. However, certain officials are protected by absolute immunity even where they acted intentionally, maliciously or corruptly. Most importantly, prosecutors enjoy absolute immunity. As a result, hundreds of innocent people have been wrongfully prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated. This class examine this doctrine.

The class is offered in Hybrid format, allowing participants to attend via Zoom or in- person at the classroom simultaneously. A Zoom link for the class will be emailed to you the day before the first session. (Monday class links will be sent on the previous Thursday.)

Please watch your email just prior to class for a PARKING MAP showing approved parking at the location. It is important to follow parking guidelines to respect the parking needs of other businesses nearby. Parking is limited, but additional street parking is available along Lake Blvd.

Enrollment Policies

There will be no service charge for withdrawal requests prior to the beginning of the Winter quarter. As of January 10, 2024, all withdrawal requests are subject to a $20 processing fee.  No refunds are given for a withdrawal once a course has begun.

OLLI FIELD TRIP COURSE FEES are not refundable once you have enrolled unless your vacancy can be filled by someone on the wait list.
