Health Effects of Loneliness and Isolation

Online
Human beings are social creatures. Our need to belong is powerful and fundamental. When opportunities to connect with others are eliminated or reduced, the physical and mental effects can be sobering. Isolation and loneliness have been linked to increased mortality and have a relation to cognitive decline, physical deconditioning - even poor diet and increased medication use. Join in a discussion with Dr. Rebecca Boxer, chief of Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Medicine at UC Davis Health. She'll share medical insights and recent research on the effects of isolation and prolonged loneliness. Time for audience Q & A will be included.
