Innocence: San Francisco Opera
Composed by renowned Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, Innocence is a modern opera which explores the need for honesty in the recovery from a trauma. Set at a family celebration years after a tragic mass shooting in Helsinki, Innocence is a beautiful exploration of the scars we all carry within us, while emphasizing a positive, loving message about the humanity we all share. The work was co-commissioned by multiple opera companies, including the San Francisco Opera. The world premiere debut in Aix-en-Provence took place in 2021. Kaija Saariaho was ranked as the world’s greatest living composer in a 2019 composers’ poll by BBC Music Magazine.

Note: We will travel by luxury motor coach with a hosted lunch stop near the opera house before the matinee. A pre-performance discussion with opera staff is planned
for our group but yet to be confirmed. Due to orchestra seating arrangements, participants may be unable to sit with their preferred partner. For details, please contact

OLLI membership is required to participate.
Parking and bus pick-up location will be emailed one week in advance of trip. Student credit may not be applied to this event.
Course fees are non-refundable once you have enrolled.
All fees are non-refundable but may be transferred no later than June 13 to another ADULT participant if you are unable to attend. No participants under age 18 allowed.
Enrollment Policies
COURSE FEES FOR THIS OLLI FIELD TRIP ARE NOT REFUNDABLE AFTER YOU HAVE ENROLLED.
If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your purchase to another ADULT (AGE 18 OR OLDER) participant through May 30. AFTER June 13, no transfers are allowed and all fees are forfeit to OLLI. Contact olli@ucdavis.edu in the event you need to transfer your purchase to another attendee.
